​Prerequisites:

​*Baja Rally does not rent motorcycles or vehicles.

REQUIREMENTS FOR RALLY RAID COMPETITION 
TRAINING EVENT REQUIRES ONLY items 1-4 below

You must have, at minimum, the following equipment to compete in Rally Raid category in Baja Rally competitive events.

1) Navigation Equipment
Properly installed and mounted rally navigation kit or equivalent (pictured right) (currently $940.00 as of January 2023), with the minimum of:
Motorcycles: 
A. Roadbook reader (electric or manual)
B. Adjustable digital odometer** (GPS-based preferred) 
C. Space for RALLY COMP device*** 

UTV / SXS 
A. Roadbook reader is optional but recommended*
B. Adjustable digital odometer** (GPS-based preferred) 
C. Space for RALLY COMP device*** 
 
2) Vehicle:
UTV/SXS Meeting Minimum Technical Requirements****

​Single-cylinder, 4-stroke motorcycle from 250cc - 701cc displacement as delivered. Motorcycle must be completely safe with at least 120 miles of fuel range. Riders wishing to take the course on a larger bike above 701cc or twin-cylinder may apply in writing for an exception and may be asked to provide resume and references for competency. 3) Standard riding/ driving protective gear:
Helmet, boots, googles/full face shield, gloves, riding pants, jacket or driving suit, gloves and hydration pack/ backpack (ie: Camelback). UTV/ SXS drivers and co-drivers must have gloves and face shields unless the vehicle has a full windshield 

4) Roadbook marking kit:
1 pall ball point ink pen, 3 different colored highlighter marking pens, glue stick, scissors, and roll of scotch tape.

5) ICOM IC-SAT100 PTT Iridium Satellite Radio 
NOT INCLUDED with you entry fee/ tuition. You must reserve this exact model of rental phone for BAJA RALLY events 2 weeks prior to your event. If you arrive to a BAJA RALLY event without this requirement being met YOU WILL NOT PARTICIPATE. Rental units available Satellite Phone Store

6) Rider/ Driver / Co-Driver
Must be intermediate level off road skill or above, in good health with no pre-existing medical conditions. This is a serious navigation training program for experienced off road riders and racers.

7. RALLY COMP Compliance (Unit Included in Entry)
Visit the RALLY COMP Page on our website to understand what is required and how to comply with RALLY COMP specifications. ​

*UTV/ SXS are not required to have a roadbook reader only if the vehicle has a windshield and a co-driver. In this case the co-driver/navigator will use roadbook pages such as WRC and FIA rally standards.  Using roadbook pages is not practical without a windshield do to the wind disturbance in the cockpit. Solo UTV/ SXS vehicles and drivers MUST have a roadbook reader. 

​**GPS-based odometer/ tripmaster is preferred for accuracy as opposed to traditional, calibrated odometers.

***Per Rule 3.12: All participants must make space and provide a power connection for RALLY COMP.  

This IS NOT an off road training and skills program. 
If you are not in good riding shape with adequate off road skills, you will be disqualified from the program after the first practice stage. ​

UTV/ SXS MINIMUM TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
​1. 6 Point Roll-Cage. (Factory cage OK as long as it meets 6 point minimum)  
2. Side Panels / Doors Required (Doors must be secured to prevent from popping open)
3. Window Nets Required
4. Roof Panel Required
5. One 2.5lb Fire Extinguisher Mounted On UTV w/ Quick Release.
6. 5- Point Seat Belts Required 2” or 3” Wide Belts OK, 3” Preferred
7. One Piece Fire-Suit Required
8. Helmet w/ DOT or Snell Decal. Eye Protection Must Be Shatter Resistant.
9. Gloves and Neck Brace Are Recommended
10. Numbers On Both Sides Of Vehicle. Minimum 8” Tall Numbers, Yellow Background w/ Black Numbers
